Description

The Gustavus Department of Music is proud to present Le Quatuor International de Saxophones.

Le Quatuor International de Saxophones brings together four musicians from three continents, united by their dedication to the art of chamber music. First formed in 2002 for performances at the World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis, the quartet represents the synergy of different personalities, musical aesthetics, and cultural experiences, all supported by an enduring friendship. The QIS has performed in Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, France, Japan, Scotland, Spain, Slovenia, Thailand, and the USA.  They have commissioned new works by composers Roger Boutry, Chen Yi, Frédéric Devreese, Kushida Testunosuke, Sylvain Kassap, Junichi Nihashi, Carol Barnett, Carlton Macy, François Rossé, Andriy Talpash, and Yasushiro Kasamatsu. Each year the four saxophonists meet in different parts of the world to perform together and explore contemporary music from composers of diverse cultures and national backgrounds.
