Femmes of Power: Figuring Queer Femininities Confer 127

Dr. Ulrika Dahl, Södertörn University, Stockholm, and Fulbright Hildeman Fellow at the Department of Scandinavian Studies at Gustavus will present "Femmes of Power: Figuring Queer Femininities."

What is femininity? What makes it queer? How do we understand subcultural fashion and performance across different national and regional contexts? What is femme activism? Drawing on research and images produced for the book Femmes of Power: Exploding Queer Femininities (Serpent's Tail, 2008), Dr. Dahl will talk about her ongoing ethnographic research on femininities and about her  collaboration with visual artist Del LaGrace Volcano and the more than 50 femmes from 12 cities in 7 countries that are featured in their internationally reviewed book.
