On Friday, September 22, during Daily Sabbath in Christ Chapel, we invite you to learn about the Jewish holiday, Rosh Hashanah, a two-day celebration of the Jewish new year that begins the time known in Judaism as the High Holy Days. The new year celebration begins a ten day period of prayer, reflection and self-examination that culminates in the observance of Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement. During this time, Jews repent and make amends for their transgressions against other people and seek God's forgiveness for another year. Following the trumpet blasts at the end of the service, we invite you to join us in the back of the chapel for a traditional Rosh Hashanah food: apples dipped in honey. Dr. Marian Broida will be leading this year's Rosh Hashanah observance. Rooted in the tradition and values of Lutheran higher education, Christ Chapel is both a sacred space for Christian worship and a gathering place to learn about and appreciate a wide variety of religious traditions, celebrations, and practices.
