The Building Bridges Conference has always been a platform for students to address significant issues of justice in a proactive and informative way. This year’s conference will provide attendees a chance to explore educational institutions both as tools of oppression and liberation. The goal of the conference is to bring awareness to the multifaceted ways educational institutions perpetuate discrimination, inequality, and misinformation, so that attendees can prepare to recognize and deconstruct information and knowledge bias in their own communities. 

We look forward to engaging in these important conversations in a hybrid format. Our conference will include two highlighted addresses from Michelle Tovar, the Director of Public Engagement at Holocaust Museum Houston who works in advocating for Latinx visibility in museums and schools, and Christian Uwe, a professor at the Univeristy of Minnesota whose research focuses on questions of aesthetics, poetics and their political ramifications particularly in Sub-Saharan and Caribbean literature. In addition, there will be an interactive walkthrough experience and workshops provided by local activists and organizations. We want conference attendees to leave prepared to go into their communities equipped with the tools needed to recognize and dismantle bias in educational institutions.
