Description

Cante Suta-Francis Bettelyoun, Oglala Lakhota of the Ocheti Sakowin will lead discussion on the history of the land prior to and after the establishment of  Gustavus Adolphus College, and the importance of this history in developing trusting relationships to develop far-reaching reconciliation plans. Speaking from Lakhota cultural knowledge, Francis will guide discussions to bring an understanding of trust-building to all involved at Gustavus: what this land means to the Ocheti Sakowin; and why it's important to have these discussions and reconciliation efforts to recognize the need for correcting ongoing injustices to Indigenous people.  Sponsored by the Indigenous Relations Working Group through the Office of the President
