Scholarship Day FAQ'sRelax...this is fun!

What is the atmosphere of Scholarship Day?

We love to welcome visitors (scholarship finalists, their families, and any other guests of the finalists) to Gustavus for Scholarship Day. For many students, this is the first real interview or audition they've had to do. We hope you will relax and let your true personality and ability show! Scholarship Day is a great opportunity for you to engage with faculty and current Gusties. While you should certainly be prepared for your scholarship competition, also plan to have fun and to learn more about the Gustavus experience.

We are very confident you will enjoy the day if you come prepared, stay relaxed, and take advantage of all the opportunities to ask questions and interact with members of the Gustie community.

What should I wear?

Business casual attire is appropriate and keep in mind it can be chilly here in Minnesota! Please be comfortable, but you may feel too casual in jeans.

Do I need to bring anything to the event?

If you are participating in a talent-based scholarship interview/audition, please review the additional information on the Scholarship Day website regarding the process and expectations for each respective fine arts scholarship. For the President’s Interview, you don’t need to bring anything other than you—and your thoughts, ideas, and personality! We will provide the faculty interviewers with information about you in anticipation of the interview, so it is not necessary to bring a resume or additional documentation. We will also provide you with a folder on the day of the event that includes the detailed schedule of the day, information about your interview time(s) and location(s), campus information and paper/space for you to take notes as appropriate. Finally, we will also be sure to have plenty of snacks and refreshments on hand throughout the day in various locations, so there is no need to be concerned about providing your own food unless there is something very specific you require.

Are my parents/siblings/other guests invited? What will they do?

Of course! We offer a variety of sessions throughout the morning, and parents/guests are encouraged to participate in sessions, mingle with Gusties in the Beck Hall atrium, or bring a book and find a quiet corner. It can be a long day for young siblings, so we'll leave that up to your family.

I am a finalist for multiple scholarships. How does that work?

Scholarship Day feature President's Scholarship interviews, Theatre/Dance Scholarship auditions, Art Scholarship portfolio reviews, and Bjorling Music auditions. Additionally, the day will include a variety of information sessions and panels, faculty-led academic sessions, customized tours, and a luncheon. We will craft your personal schedule so that you can participate in each respective interview/audition, but it may mean you miss an optional session or panel. If you are a Bjorling music scholarship applicant in addition to another scholarship, it may also mean you have a later audition time (between 1-3pm.)
