Assistant Men's and Women's Diving Coach in Athletics

Tim Johnson is entering his fifth year as the men’s and women’s assistant diving coach. The Minneapolis native now has 44 years of coaching experience at various high schools and colleges across the state.

Johnson graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University in 1973 with his Bachelor of Arts in Health, Physical Education and Coaching. He began his coaching career at Southwest Minnesota State in 1971, where he served as the assistant swimming coach before making his way to Mankato East High School. At East, Johnson served as the head boy’s swimming and diving coach from 1973-2014 and the head girl’s swimming and diving coach from 1978-2013. He also served as the diving coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato from 1991-1993.

During his time at Mankato East, Johnson was named Section Swimming Coach of the Year six times and Section Diving Coach of the Year eight. He was also recognized as the NCC Diving Coach of the Year in 1992, one of his three years with the Maverick’s diving program. Johnson has since been inducted into the Mankato East Athletic Hall of Fame and the Minnesota Swimming Hall of Fame.

Johnson and his wife Barbara, reside in Eagle Lake, Minnesota and have three grown children and eight grandchildren.
