Spring Break Building Hours...On Thursday, March 29, academic and administrative buildings will close by 8 p.m. and remain closed until 7 a.m. on Monday, March April 2. Monday, April 2 through Friday, April 6, academic buildings will close at 6 p.m. each day. Please check the posted hours for the Campus Center, Lund Center, and the Library for specialized closing times. Normal building hours resume Sunday, April 8. If the closing schedule conflicts with programming needs, please contact Lisa Octigan or Campus Safety to make the necessary reservations. Students requiring access to academic buildings after-hours or to secured areas during this period will need to have a "Permission for Admittance Card" issued by a faculty or staff member. Additional cards can be requested in advance from Lisa Octigan.

Spring Break Parking Lot Closing Schedule...All vehicles remaining on campus over Spring Break must be parked in the designated break parking in the Bjorling lot (directly west of the Music building) or if that fills up, in the designated break parking section in the Arbor View lot. Please see the lot cleaning schedule for lots that are closed each night Tuesday, April 3-Thursday, April 5 (5 p.m.-4 a.m.). Look for the BREAK PARKING signs to be sure you are parked in the correct row(s).
Regular permit parking enforcement will also be in effect during spring break (red and green permit lots permit required 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, overnight parking restricted 2-7 a.m. in green permit parking and the Stadium lot seven days a week, Visitor parking closed to students and employees 24/7/365). Always assume that parking is enforced even if classes are not in session.

Spring Break College Post Office Hours...The College Post Office will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 2 through April 6, 2018. The Mailroom and Print Services will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Campus Happenings

Saint Peter Chamber of Commerce Annual Social...As a member of the Chamber, all Gustavus employees are invited to attend the Saint Peter Chamber of Commerce annual social dinner and silent auction on Friday, April 6 starting at 5:30 p.m. in Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall. This year's theme is Second Chance Prom. This evening is a chance to have fun with prom stories that did not go as expected. Prom-themes attire is optional. Cost is $40 per person. Lecture on Government...Dr. Walter Williams is serving as the 2018 Lindau Resident in Conservative Thought. His lecture, titled "The Role of Government in a Free Society" is on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall and will be live streamed. Williams is an economist, national media commentator, and academic who is a proponent of free market economics and opposes socialist systems of government intervention believing laissez-faire capitalism is the most moral and productive system. Dr. Williams will address why and how there has been a decline of constitutional values that has permitted the growth of the government. More information about the lecture is available online.

5th Annual Word Play...a gathering of readers and writers, June 22 and 23 in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center.
Organized by Gustie English major alums Julie Johnson, Jane Leitzman and Dave Solheim, and co-sponsored by the English department. This event is open to everyone who likes to read, write and listen. Donations only to cover facilities and refreshments. All donations above cost will go to the English Department.
Friday night: Readers' Theatre--Doug Huff's "Benedict Arnold," his newest play. (Award-winning playwright and emeritus Philosophy faculty member).
Saturday: Lawrence Owen (emeritus English faculty member) will lead a memoir writing workshop.
Athena Kildegaard (English alum) will read from her newest book of poems, Course.
Open Mic--for anyone interested in sharing their own work or favorite pieces others have written.
Lawrence Owen and Cheryl Downy (theatre alum) will close the day with a two-person theatre performance.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Mankato Free Press, Minnesota Public Radio, and KEYC covered the 20th anniversary of the Saint Peter Tornado. Kare 11, WCCO TV and radio, KSTP, and MPR also covered the anniversary.

A story was run in the Mankato Free Press on Gustavus Professor Karl Larson recieving a mentorship award.

Chipotle Fundraiser...Colleges Against Cancer is holding a Chipotle Fundraiser on Tuesday, April 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Chipotle at 1600 Warren Street, Mankato. Mention the Colleges Against Cancer fundraiser to the cashier or show them the photo from our Facebook page and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Relay For Life of Gustavus. Obituaries

Lorie Siebels, administrative assistant in the Office of Marketing and Communications, passed away on Sunday, March 25 due to complications stemming from a cardiac issue. Visitation and funeral arrangements can be found online.

To inform the campus community of the death of a current student, employee, or trustee; an emeritus professor or trustee; or an immediate family member of a current employee, contact the Office of the President (x7538 or jnoren@gustavus.edu). Death announcements and funeral notices for students, current and emeritus faculty and employees, and trustees will be sent to the community via written notice from the president, posted on community-l, the official campuswide e-mail list, and published in Inside Gustavus or the Summer Scoop. Notices for immediate family members of current employees will be published in Inside Gustavus or the Summer Scoop.

Inside Gustavus is a newsletter for Gustavus Adolphus College employees produced by the Office of Marketing and Communication. It is published weekly during the academic year (except during the week of Thanksgiving, the Christmas break, Touring Week, and the Spring and Easter breaks). Anyone may submit items by filling out an online submission form. While online submissions are preferred, items may also be submitted typewritten on a letter-sized sheet of paper. Send "snail mail" items to: Inside Gustavus, Office of Marketing and Communication. Items must reach the office no later than 4:30 p.m. on the Tuesday before publication.
