Major: Honors Psychology
Minor(s): Neuroscience & Management
Experience/Interests: At Gustavus, I'm involved in Gustie Greeters, Big Partner Little Partner, Gustavus Youth Outreach, and research in the Psychology Department to name a few things. In my spare time I like to play volleyball, hang out with friends, take naps, and go boating.
Future Plans: I’m planning on going to graduate school for speech pathology. This summer, I’m working at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in the REU program. I’ll be working with a child developmental psychologist studying how children learn the meanings behind words from social contexts.
Katelyn Warburton
Graduation Year: 2013
Major(s): Psychology and Sociology/Anthropology
Minor: Neuroscience
Experience/Interests: research apprenticeship under two psychology professors, volunteer in several different areas of the community, culture, education, understanding the brain
Future Plans: I am either pursuing experiences in Africa post graduation or graduate school. I am applying for both a Fulbright and Princeton in Africa to experience culture in South Africa and learn more about their education system. I am looking at graduate programs focused on determining how culture, ethnic background, and socioeconomic status influence cognitive abilities in different learning environments. Eventually, I would like to work with faculty, administration, and other educational leaders on creating curriculum and environments that assist all children in learning.
Anna Schmidt
Graduation Year: 2013
Major: Biology
Minor: Neuroscience
Experience/Interests: I am particularly interested in the applications of neuroscience in medicine.
Future Plans: I will take one year off to work before applying to medical school.
Christine Tenhoff
Graduation Year: 2013
Major(s): Biology and Communication Studies
Minor: Neuroscience
Experience/Interests: I am intrigued by the power of the mind and the implications it has for health. I love learning how the brain works and what causes it to change.
Future Plans: Masters in acupuncture and oriental medicine, naturopathy, or med school???
Class of 2014

Class of 2015
Danica Swanson
Graduation Year: 2015
Major: Biology
Minor(s): Neuroscience and Chemistry
Experience/Interests: I am very interested in how the brain responds to music. This interest became very apparent to me during the Nobel conference.
Future Plans: I plan to take a year off after graduation before attending dental school. I also hope to do research involving music and the brain.
Peter Westby
Graduation Year: Officially 2015, hopefully 2014
Major: Social Studies Education
Minor: Neuroscience
Experience/Interests: I have always been fascinated by the mechanics driving human interaction. The pace at which one’s brain may receive information, interpret it and react based on analysis of data is astonishing to me. I am fascinated by stories of how one is able to overcome physiological challenges (such as illness, certain-death situations, etc.) through sheer mental strength to alter their perception of possibility in reality and overcome adversity. My hope is that by performing further research in neuroscience, I will be able to offer greater rationales for the inner-workings of social sciences such as economics and psychology that have occasionally earned reputations as “soft sciences”.
Other interests: Music (trombonist in Gustavus Wind Orchestra), Greek, Philosophy, Religion
Future Plans: Teaching history/government at high school level, possible research
