The Latin American, Latinx & Caribbean Studies (LALACS) Major/Minor Program commits to upholding equity and inclusion. As an area studies program shaped by its postcolonial nature we, the LALACS faculty, are tasked with ensuring that we not only decolonize our pedagogies, but also our brains; our inherited worldview. We seek equity for those in the margins, and embrace the diversity of all human beings. We stand united in resisting the historically imposed racist frameworks of colonialism. We expose, challenge and question cultural assimilation, classism, xenophobia, homophobia, ableism, religious intolerance, and all forms of hate. As a learning community, we value all voices that align with the Gustavus Adolphus College mission of Justice; Service; Community; Faith. 

LALACS faculty and staff commit to:

• Being actively anti-racist 
• Fostering inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals
• Examining course materials to decolonize pedagogies
• Engaging in campus wide DEI trainings

Through LALACS courses and programming, LALACS Major/Minor students will:

• Promote inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and anti-racist spaces 
• Actively engage in DEI trainings
