Carriage return(Redirected from Carriage returns)

A carriage return is the term for the result of hitting the "enter" or "return" key on a keyboard when creating text. The said result is a creation of a new line of text.

The term carriage return came from the actual carriage mechanism inside a typewriter. To hit the "enter" button and go on to a new line of text was to return the carriage to its original position.
