Learn to Swim with the GustiesSPRING 2024 // TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, THURSDAYS: APRIL 9 - MAY 9

Let the Gusties teach your children how to swim!

  • This is one of the best values in the area!
  • Each teacher will work with an average of three children to guarantee your child plenty of expert personal attention. More personal attention means that your child will improve their swimming skills very quickly!
  • Our instructors (Gustavus Adolphus College swimmers) have the teaching experience, skills, maturity, and passion to make this an enjoyable experience for children of all abilities and ages.

Lesson Format

Each session will consist of one 40-minute class each week for five weeks. Your child will meet his or her instructor at the pool and be given directions for pool safety. Classes will progress from teaching swimming basics (such as floating and kicking) to more advanced instruction (teaching swimming strokes). You will choose the level of instruction for your child based on prior experience, ability, and age. Parents will receive a progress report at the conclusion of the final day of class.

Pool Information

The Vic Gustafson pool, located in the Lund Athletic Center, is a ten-lane, 25-yard pool with a deep end of 13’6” and a shallow end of 4’. Younger children will be instructed primarily in the shallow end of the pool. Children will be taken to deep water only under direct supervision and only when their abilities allow for it.

The Lund Fitness Center is on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter. The nearest intersection is Circle Dr. and Student Center Dr. Complete driving directions can be found at Gustavus Maps.

Supervision

All classes will be supervised by two lifeguards and the program director in addition to the close supervision of your child’s instructor. Parents are welcome to attend class and may sit on the pool deck. Adults are not required to enter the water with children.

Is My Child Ready?

Children are ready to learn how to swim when they are able to get into the water on their own or with an adult. If your child is timid about getting into a pool, give our experienced instructors a try! They do an excellent job of working with hesitant swimmers to join them in the water.

REQUIREMENT! Children ages: 4yrs old+ only. No children under 4 please.

Confirmation

We will send a confirmation e-mail one week prior to the start of your first class to confirm your session day and time. Sessions require a minimum of 6 children in order to run. If you sign up for a session that has fewer than 6 children, we will make every effort to reschedule you into a different session. Sessions are considered FULL at 12 swimmers.
