Dr. David Sedlak

Dr. David Sedlak is a Malozemoff Professor in Mineral Engineering, Co-director of Berkeley Water Center, and Director of Institute for Environmental Science and Engineering (IESE). Dr. Sedlak was a speaker at the 2009 Nobel Conference. Dr. Sedlak’s book Water 4.0: The Past, Present, and Future of the World’s Most Vital Resource is based on a concept that he developed during conversations with fellow presenters and attendees at the 2009 Nobel Conference.

Dr. Sedlak was on campus in the summer of 2014 as a Drs. Robert E. and Susan T. Rydell Professor and spoke about meeting the future challenges of providing adequate water resources to a growing population in a changing world. He returned to campus the spring of 2016 to continue his connection with Gustavus students and faculty. He spoke on April 6, 2016 in Olin Hall on "Climate Change and the Future of California". 

The Rydell Professorship is a scholar-in-residence program designed to bring Nobel laureates and similarly distinguished scholars to the Gustavus campus as catalysts for enhancing learning and teaching. It was established in 1995 by Drs. Robert E. and Susan T. Rydell of Minnetonka, Minn., to give students, staff, and alumni the opportunity to learn from and interact with leading scholars.
