Student Arboretum Assistants will assist the Arboretum staff with a wide range of duties relating to outdoor education, gardens, habitat management as well as the maintenance and management of the Interpretive Center.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Assist in developing educational material for the Arboretum

Plan events for students, campus, and St. Peter community

Assist in office work, decorating (for events), and errands

Assist with the Director/Naturalist and Administrative Assistant’s projects

Manage the Arboretum’s social networking presence

Preferred skills and abilities:

Possesses an interest in the Arboretum and environmental education.

Possesses a high level of energy

Possesses a positive outlook and good people skills

Ability to plan and facilitate events for students and community members

Ability to be comfortable working outdoors

Ability to work alone or as a team

Ability to use small tools for gardening and maintenance

Basic knowledge of office software (Microsoft Word, Excel)

Hours:

Hours are planned around the assistant’s personal class/activity schedule. Normal hours will take place anywhere between 8am and 4:30pm. Weekly meetings within these hours are required and scheduled according to the assistants’ schedules. This job requires some evenings and weekends for Arboretum events.

Work environment:

Most work will be indoors at the Interpretive Center, but also includes light groundskeeping, gardening, and outdoor education duties.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift more than 20 lbs., climb ladders and use gardening tools may be required
