Description

Lecture by Sharon Avery-Fahlstr??m, The ?–yvind Fahlstr??m Foundation & Archives at Museu d'art contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Spain.

The origins of the Brazilian-born Swedish artist ?–yvind Fahlstr??m's first major work, Opera, are Roman. Fahlstr??m was in classical studies at Stockholm University, fell in love with a fellow classicist, and went with her when she won a year's scholarship to The Swedish Institute for Classical Studies in Rome.

Sharon will share her case study of ?–yvind Fahlstr??m's Opera, which provides convincing evidence that Fahlstr??m?s later work (certainly his palette) was very much influenced by his time in Rome and Italy. After this formal lecture (in a Q&A session) Sharon will talk more about Fahlstr??m?s legacy and the installations on display at the Hippie Modernism exhibition (closing Feb. 29th) at the Walker Art Museum.

Free refreshments to follow the lecture.
