"Why Crime Fiction?" OUT OF SCANDINAVIA WEEK keynote lecture by 2014 Writer-in-Residence Arne Dahl Interpretive Center at the Linnaeus Arboretum

Public keynote lecture: "Why Crime Fiction?” at 7pm, preceded by a reception and book signing at 6. Is crime fiction merely entertainment, or also a vital and important genre of contemporary literature? Arne Dahl (english.arnedahl.net), an award-winning crime fiction writer from Sweden, will talk about the fundamentals of writing crime fiction from the heart of this celebrated Scandinavian tradition, which highlights social crimes as well as interpersonal ones. Why are we so strangely drawn to crimes committed by the very democratic society we created to minimize criminal transgressions? Free and open to the public.
