Description

A wave of legislation requiring IDs for all voters is sweeping state legislatures and in November this issue will be on the ballot in Minnesota. The effect of the Voter ID Bill, which claims to help prevent voter fraud, will be to suppress tens of thousands of otherwise eligible voters.

The Campus Democrats and Taking Action are hosting a workshop that will focus on Photo ID legislation in Minnesota and other states. It will feature several film clips, small group discussions, activities, and Q & A. A special section of the workshop will focus on what Photo ID would mean for college students, particularly Gustavus students. We will also address activism already taking place on this issue and provide ways for students to get involved.

The workshop will be led by Alex Erickson from TakeAction Minnesota's Democracy Campaign. Alex spent fourteen months deployed in Baghdad as a Cavalry Scout, which he says helped him realize the importance of free and fair elections for all in his own state and country. He has testified in front of the House Committee on Government Operations and Elections and spoken at press conferences in opposition to Photo ID.

Pizza and light refreshments will be provided.
