The Building Bridges Conference has always been a platform for students to address significant issues of justice in a proactive and informative way. This year’s conference will provide attendees a chance to understand some experiences of a refugee. The goal of the conference is to bring awareness to the many challenges and injustices that refugees and asylum seekers face so that attendees can prepare to recognize the mistreatment directed towards this group of people and take action to fight against it.

We look forward to engaging in these important conversations in an interactive format. Our conference will include two highlighted addresses from Alicia Vasquez-Crede, the Associate Director for Asylum Services at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and a former UNHCR resettlement officer, and Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay, a Lao poet, playwright, cultural producer, and philanthropist. In addition, there will be an interactive walkthrough experience and workshops provided by local activists and organizations. We want conference attendees to leave prepared to go into their communities equipped with the tools needed to recognize and fight toward a more inclusive home for refugees and asylum seekers.
