Description
Translations: By Brian Friel, Directed by Amy Seham. A masterpiece by Ireland's premiere playwright, Translations blends the personal and the political in an intriguing drama set in 1833. Friel explores the effects of a colonialism on native culture through the relationships of Irish locals and British soldiers who have arrived in Donegal to map and anglicize the names of every town, river and road in the Irish countryside. As Irish and English struggle to communicate, Friel provides us with a fascinating look at the nature of language.
