Description
Balm in Gilead, written by Lanford Wilson, directed by Rick Snyder. A transvestite, prostitutes, drug dealers, and the denizens of the street form a masterful ensemble in Lanford Wilson's Balm in Gilead, and provide a stylized look at the humor, cruelty, and tragedy that exist in the underbelly of big city street life. One of the great ensemble acting pieces of the last century, Balm in Gilead utilizes some twenty plus actors who portray their characters in the fluorescent lights of an all-night diner. The only love is purchased, the only god is heroin. Balm in Gilead is a play about the jungle beneath the jungle and a look into its heart.
