Description

Join us on Wednesday, March 28 for Teachers Talking. Topic: What is "Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy" and Why Does it Matter?
Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy (CSP) is a relatively new way of approaching the issue of justice, equity, and inclusion in the classroom. According to Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies: Teaching and Learning for Justice in a Changing World (Paris and Alim 2017), CSP "seeks to perpetuate and foster--to sustain--linguistic, literate, and cultural pluralism as part of schooling for positive social transformation" (1). What does that mean? What does that look like in the classroom? How is CSP truly different from previous initiatives towards equity and inclusion? What are the potential uses (and challenges) of CSP? Our CSP reading group has been asking these questions, but no prior knowledge is necessary to join us in this conversation. Program 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Free lunch at the Three Crowns buffet, St Peter Room.
