Description

Poseidon's Shield: The Oceans as Guardians of our Multicultural Heritage

Nautical archaeology is a new and rapidly growing field comprising shipwreck excavation, reconstruction and interpretation. The oceans that initially separated cultures later connected them, inspiring technology and innovation. Providing a unique lens through which to understand our past and ourselves, nautical archaeology is now raising important questions about intercultural relationships and responsibilities. A richly illustrated talk by underwater archaeologist John Albertson '06.
