Description

Join us on Thursday, January 30 from 1 to 3 pm in Heritage Room. Research shows that using students' names promotes positive relationships and student success, but it can be intimidating when we encounter unfamiliar names--what if I mispronounce it and offend my student? By the end of this crash course in articulatory phonetics with Carly Overfelt, attendees will be able to hear an unfamiliar name and be able to 1) write a notation in real time of the individual sounds and 2) use the notation to pronounce the name, or in some cases, produce a close approximation in English phonology. Space is limited; please sign up here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc2XXMNeZEUWDB1LeZdWLCJUAgY2vsG9L17fkYHUPJRoMyVNw/viewform or email Carly Overfelt, facilitator, at overfelt@gustavus.edu.
