Story SlamMay 6, 2009 at 7:30–9 p.m.
KGSM and Firethorne are excited to announce the first KGSM/Firethorne Story Slam. We are looking for student authors to tell a five minute story live, without notes, as part of a story telling competition on the Wednesday of Media Week. The event coincides with Firethorne's Spring release and is hosted by KGSM's Aural Fixation program. Interested students should contact aural-fixation@gac.edu to submit their story or for more information.
The rules are:
- You have 5 minutes to tell your story, whatever story you want
- Your story will be told live from the Dive, without notes or a manuscript
- Please submit a short description of your story to us at aural-fixation@gac.edu by April 28th.
- Judging will be done by the audience, in the event of a tie we will have a slam off wherein we will choose a theme, and the tied contestants must each tell a story based on that theme.
Keep in mind that you will be telling your story live. You can tell whatever you want, but in order to win you'll want to make it compelling in some way. We're basing this event on the story slams done by The Moth, a literary center in New York and LA, except we are only using themes for the slam off. You can check out the Moth's website at http://www.themoth.org/storyslams for more information about story slams and to hear some sample slam stories. This will be a great event, and we are excited to see you in attendance or reading on stage.
