Session 3: "The Changing Religious Landscape in the U.S.", ERQ Mini-Course ContinuesFebruary 18, 2013 at 7–9 p.m.
"If the Kingdom of Heaven is Like Yeast, then Why are the 'Nones' Rising?" Dr. Jeremy Myers of Augsburg College (Youth & Family Ministry Program) will present the third session in the Exploring Religious Questions Series. The third session will consider young people and the rise of the "nones."
32% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 are not affiliated with any particular religion. 88% of all adults who claim to be unaffiliated say they are not even searching for a religion. This is the new religious landscape in America. In this session we will review the current research on religion and young people (teens and young adults) with particular attention given to the "rise of the nones. e We will explore the multiple cultural and ecclesial shifts that have set the stage for this phenomenon and some possible ways forward.
Advance registration is necessary for this course, as limited space is available. There is a fee for the course. All class sessions begin promptly. In case of cancellation due to winter storms, we will attempt to contact registrants by phone and e-mail. (Snow date rescheduling, if needed, is March 11.)
