Professor Stephen Smale of the University of California at Berkeley
will be presenting a lecture entitled "What is Chaos, the new science of
unpredictability?" This talk is a personal account of the development
of the theory of chaos over the last 40 years.
Professor Smale, a mathematician, is the 2002 Rydell
Professor. His many honors include a Fields Medal
awarded in 1966 and the National Medal of Science awarded in 1996.
