Overcoming Implicit Bias

The presentation will focus on the topic of implicit bias. Implicit bias can exist in individuals who do not consciously consider themselves to be prejudiced. Nevertheless, this subconscious bias can influence thoughts, feelings, and actions. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete three pre-workshop assessment tests available online at: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html (there are numerous tests to choose from, but we ask that participants do Gender-Science, Race, and Disability; each test takes about 10 minutes to complete; please bring your results).

This interactive role-playing session looks at how bystander intervention empowers and mobilizes participants to recognize, intervene, stop, and prevent inappropriate comments and behaviors. Practicing these hypothetical scenarios will help employees feel better able to intervene as bystanders.

The Office of Campus Safety aims to enhance preparedness by providing training on active shooter awareness, incident response, and workplace violence. Carol Brewer will present and will answer questions.

Join us for a demonstration of several long-awaited WebAdvisor upgrades, including new features like seeing number of hours worked, hours remaining, percentage of amounts earned, and the number of hours worked in another department. Supervisors will also be able to see class schedules to help in scheduling students. These improvements will replace the monthly earnings report supervisors have been receiving from Aimee Johnson.

Meet us at the Dive with a partner(s) to participate in the Amazing Race, just like the TV show! Participants will answer questions and complete tasks in order to navigate to different locations around campus. Note: Teams can have up to 4 members. Having at least one cellphone (with camera) in the crowd is a requirement. Prizes will be given out to the top three teams!
