Description
Dr. James Flaten from the Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Minnesota will be giving a seminar on High-Altitude Ballooning. High-altitude ballooning involves using helium or hydrogen-filled latex weather balloons to lift payloads, scientific or otherwise, into the stratosphere to altitudes in excess of 80,000 ft. Put another way, high-altitude ballooning gives people the ability to construct
inexpensive "spacecraft eand fly them to "near space ewhere the conditions (and the view!) are similar to outer space.
