The People Behind the Science Lecture Series" through the Biology Department has invited seven speakers to give seminars about their research specialties and career paths throughout J-term, and we invite you to attend! This series is designed to show the diversity of early- and late-stage STEM careers in biology and highlight the real and relatable people that are behind the science.

Our next speraker will be Maicy Vossen a Ph.D student in the Applied Plant Sciences Program at the University of Minnesota. Her talk will be given in Nobel Hall 1540 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, January 23 and will focus on her career journey from a research student at Gustavus to her current role as a doctoral student researching traits related to freeze tolerance in perennial ryegrass.

Our final speaker of the semester will be Emily Bryant Kirschenblatt a Certified Genetic Counselor at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. She will be giving a seminar on her career journey, what it is like to be a genetic counselor, and her area of specialization in pediatric neurology on Thursday January 25 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
