Description
"The Threepenny Opera": books and lyrics by Bertolt Brecht, music by Kurt Weill, directed by Amy Seham, musical direction by Patricia Snapp. Created from the ferment that was Weimar Germany between the wars, Brecht's comic critique of capitalism explodes our cherished myths of charity, honesty, and romantic love. Winner of a special Tony award for its 1954 American production, "The Threepenny Opera" features Kurt Weill's jazzy, complex melodies, and Brecht's witty sardonic lyrics. This musical masterpiece is set in a colorful underworld of beggars, prostitutes and thieves including the notorious Mack the Knife, who steals hearts as well as cold cash. Sukey Tawdry, Jenny Diver, Polly Peachum, Lucy Brown - the line forms on the right folks, now that Mackie's back in town!
