The 2003 MAYDAY! Peace Conference will address the topic "World Religions: Waging War or Promoting Peace?" Events include:
9-11 a.m. -- Registration in Linner Lounge in O.J. Johnson Student Union;
10 a.m. -- Welcoming service and opening keynote address, titled "Religion: Asset or Liability for Peace?" by Krister Stendahl, emeritus professor of divinity, Harvard University, and former Bishop of Stockholm, Sweden, in Christ Chapel;
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. -- Lunch break in the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center;
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. -- Resource Center in Linner Lounge open;
1 p.m. -- Afternoon keynote addresses:
"How Islam Promotes Peace" by Riziki Shahari, Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame, in Alumni Hall in Johnson Student Union and
"Shifting Boundaries: Making Peace" by Shabnam Siddiqui, Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame;
2:30-3:45 p.m. -- Workshops in Campus Center Rooms:
"Buddhist Peace Fellowship" by Lee Lewis, executive director, Clare Housing, St. Paul, and guest panelists;
"Faith Perspectives on Peace and War" by Rebecca Smith ('04) and other Gustavus students;
"Islamic Perspective on Peacemaking" by Meena Sharify-Funk ('92) and Nathan Funk ('94), American University, Washington, D.C.;
4 p.m. -- Closing ceremony and reception in Alumni Hall.
