Description
Rorstrand Swedish Art Nouveau Porcelain from the Schriber Collection exhibit featured September 17-December 9. Museum's regular hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m., with extended hours for special events. In conjunction with the 2001 Nobel Conference, Gustavus is featuring an outstanding and extremely rare collection of Art Nouveau porcelain produced by Sweden's Rorstrand Porcelain Factory. The exhibition highlights masterpieces from the private collection of New York entrepreneur Robert Schrieber. Deeply inspired by the flowing organic shapes and patterns of continental Art Nouveau, Rorstrand porcelain created a revolution in design between 1895 and 1915. Included in the exhibition are pieces shown at the General Arts and Industry Exposition in Stockholm in 1897 and at the Esposition Universelle in Paris in 1900.
