Description

In anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, we see value in highlighting Lutheran theology, with new perspectives on and a joyful reminder of what is meaningful, inspiring, and to be celebrated in our Lutheran identity. The theme of the all-day Faith Conference 2014 is Road to Reformation: Deepening Our Theological Roots. We promise a day of learning, inspiration, and deep connection with our Lutheran identity and heritage.

The day will open with joyful worship and praise in Christ Chapel. The Rev. Timothy Colvet will bring a message. College musicians will be featured, and College Chaplains will preside.

This year's keynote speaker, Dr. Marcia J. Bunge, Bernhardson Distinguished Chair of Lutheran Studies and professor of religion at Gustavus Adolphus College, will provide both the theological grounding for and concrete examples of Lutheran commitments to children in her address, "Understanding Lutheran Commitments to Children and Youth: Theological Foundations, Historical Perspectives, and Contemporary Initiatives. eOver the past few years, Bunge has spoken and published widely on various religious perspectives on children and obligations to them, editing or co-editing and contributing to four foundational volumes on the subject.

A panel of speakers in the afternoon will reflect more deeply on the grounds for our commitments and our responsibilities to children today in the areas of child advocacy and faith formation. Panelists include Maureen Warren, Chief Family Services Officer for Lutheran Social Service; Daniel Lee, vice president of external relations, Lutheran World Relief; the Rev. Timothy Coltvet, Luther Seminary; and Tim Schmidt, managing partner, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

There is no cost to attend the Faith Conference. All are welcome, and we encourage you to bring friends and family, your church council, women's circles, men's prayer breakfast groups, and others you know with whom you share your faith and enjoy stimulating conversation and exchange of ideas. There will be a $10 charge for a box lunch and beverage; please pre-order for the lunch so that enough will e prepared, and be sure to mention any special dietary needs.
