Description

Film maker, Carlos Saura, explains that "The mixture of people, religions and culture created a new type of music. Greek rattles, Mozarab jarchas, Gregorian Chants, Castilian romances, Jewish laments, the sound of blackness and gypsy settlers from distant India all blended to create the musical structure we now call flamenco. And it is expressed through the song, dance, and the guitar".

Café flamenco celebrates the exotic ambiance of the early 1900s in Spain known as "Café Cantante," when flamenco dancers, singers, and musicians performed for glamorous patrons in cabarets.

This show is presented by Zorongo Flamenco, a Minnesota-based company comprised of an ensemble of national and international artists, dancers, and musicians, renowned for bringing the power, passion, and virtuosity of the art of flamenco to American audiences. This group has been in the area in prior years but their performance and choreography is always different; no show is the same because flamenco, like jazz, is improvisational in nature.

This is an educational family friendly event. Event is free and open to the public.
