Description

Thursday, April 12 is Yom ha-Shoah, a Jewish civil holiday commemorating the Holocaust.
In recognition, the Office of the Chaplains is presenting the award-winning 1989 documentary Weapons of the Spirit. Its filmmaker, Pierre Sauvage, was one of about 5000 Jews protected during World War II through the nonviolent resistance of the inhabitants of a small French village. The film presents a compelling portrait of the remarkable moral courage of this small farming community, led by its two courageous pastors.
Introducing the film is Dr. Sharon Marquart, author of On the Defensive: Reading the Ethical in Nazi Camp Testimonies (University of Toronto Press, 2015). Dr. Marquart will be joining Gustavus in Fall 2018 as an Associate Professor of French and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies.
