"Without Geography, We're Nowhere"
Mt. Elbrus is one of the world's "Seven Summits, ethe highest point on each of the seven continents, and is considered the highest point for Europe. Christian Gilbert and fellow teacher, Brian Honkomp, spent 2 weeks within the country of Russia last spring attempting to climb the 18,510-foot peak. Mr. Gilbert will be breaking down the geological and geographic stories of the Mt. Elbrus area by "climbing" Mt. Elbrus during this talk. He will also be making quick stops in St. Petersburg and Moscow to share some of the images of this unique country. A variety of visual media will be used throughout this presentation to tell the story of Mt. Elbrus & Russia.
About the speaker:
Christian Gilbert ˜98 'is an 8th Grade Geography Educator and Mountain Climber. He is also Co-founder of Go4theSummit (www.Go4theSummit.com) "...an online learning environment geared to serve learners of all ages in order to provide a deeper understanding of world places and culture." A seasoned mountain climber, Mr. Gilbert has climbed 3 of the 7 Summits: Mt. Aconcagua (South America, 2008), Mt. Kilimanjaro ((Africa, 2009) and Mt. Elbrus (Russia, 2010). His next destination (4th Summit) is Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia
