Description
Faculty symposium in honor of Chaplain Brian Johnson's contributions to the College. Will Freiert (classics), Mary Gaebler (religion), Doug Huff (philosophy), Bruce McClain (art and art history), Steve Mellema (physics) and Joyce Sutphen (English) will feature as speakers.
The topic will be "Coincidentia Oppositorum", the phrase coined by the Renaissance mathematician Nicholas of Cusa to describe that ultimate reality that is reached when opposites come together. Part of Brian's gift to Gustavus has been his skill at integrating liturgy and creativity, Christianity and diversity, spirituality and the life of the mind.
The symposium will be accompanied by wines, cheeses and other hors d'oeuvres.
