Description

Building Bridges is proud to sponsor our last event of the school year. The En La Luz Project: Lighting Lanterns to Bridges Silence is an extension of Naomi Natale's En La Luz Project, which aims to build a physical and virtual constellation of Chilean memory over the coup d'??tat of 1973 and the ensuing 17 years of dictatorship. It is described as a social art practice that uses education, storytelling, and public installation to release silence, spark a public dialogue, and share the experience of 1973 in a new light. Naomi Natale was the Highlighted Workshop Speaker at this years conference.

This is a two part event with lantern making taking place on Monday, May 8th from 5:30pm-8:30pm in the Courtyard Cafe and then lighting of the lanterns taking place on Wednesday, May 10th at 8:30pm on Eckman Mall (Christ Chapel-Rain Location).

This extension of the project focuses on personal silences. We hope that participants will use the uniqueness and anonymity of the luminaria bags to share with the world an experience that has troubled them but that they have felt they must remain silent on. Many times we have remained silent about our experiences because society has told us too, this event is designed to help bridge that silence.

So please consider joining us and creating and Lighting a Lantern to Bridge Silence.
