Announcement: "Drones for Science?" Thursday, May 7 - Demo at 10:00am / talk at 7:00pm by Oliver Wigmore, Geographer at OH State Univ POSTPONED
THE DEMO and TALK HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED to Tuesday, May 12.
Oliver Wigmore, Geography Department at Ohio State University, is pioneering the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to document environmental change in high-elevation Andean watersheds. He will talk about his research, "Drones for Science? Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Glacial Watershed Mapping in the Peruvian Andes" on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00pm in Olin Hall, Room 103.
Also, as part of his visit, at 9:50am on Thurday, Oliver Wigmore will demonstrate the UAV he has constructed for this technically-challenging research task. (The Geography Department hopes to replicate it for our use as a research resource here at Gustavus.) The UAV demo will be held on the lawn directly south of Southwest Hall.
The Environmental Studies program has provided support for these two events.
