Description

Denim Day is this coming Wednesday, April 26. Denim Day is a globally recognized campaign to protest destructive attitudes in our society about sexual assault. The campaign was originally triggered by a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Since, Denim Day has been recognized for 18 years as a symbol of support and protest. Title IX asks Gustavus Adolphus College community members; including students, faculty, and staff to make a social statement by wearing demim on April 26 to spread awareness about the misconceptions of sexual assault.
