Title:"Diversity, Inclusivity, and Equity: Frank O'Hara, Frank Lima and the New York School of Poetry of the 1950s and1960s and how it touched Gustavus."
Location: Saint Peter Room, JCC
Date: Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Additional insight: The talk will center around the New York School of Poetry, an important movement of Modern American Poetry, and its impact on the poetic, social, and cultural landscape and fabric of American society. I will talk about the poetic and artistic revolution it caused, but also how diversity and inclusion and equity were one of its core tennents. I'll talk about how on at least three occasions Gustavus was touched by this movement with visits here by poets, Frank Lima, as well as Kenneth Koch and Amiri Baraka, all central figures and leading contributors to the school.
