Description

The Saint Lucia legend stems from the island of Sicily where a woman named Lucia gave her entire dowry to the poor for which she was denounced by her fiancee and slain. Scandinavian tradition holds that in V??rmland, Sweden, a white-clad maiden, wearing a crown of burning candies, brought food to the starving villagers on the shores of Lake V??nern. They believed this woman to be the martyr Saint Lucia who came to save them from a terrible famine. Today, we celebrate this custom with our own Festival and St. Lucia court.

In honor of this tradition, the "December Dozen - Wellbeing & You esponsors are collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the St. Peter Food Shelf. Donations are appreciated and can be dropped off at the Office of Peer Education and Chemical Health in the Lower Jackson Campus Center St. Lucia Day through December 13th.

Sponsored by Health Services, the Counseling Center, Peer Education & Chemical Health, and the Peer Assistants.
