Description

Dakota elders Wilfred Keeble, Staff Carrier, and Josette Peltier, Spirital Leader, will share stories and answer questions about the Dakota 38 + 2 Wokiksuye Horse Ride, which started from a dream that Jim Miller, The Dreamer had in 2005. This is a spiritual ride that starts at the Lower Brule reservation in South Dakota, bringing together Native and non-native riders from all over Turtle Island (North America) to ride horseback over 330 miles, arriving at Reconciliation Park in Mankato at 10 am on December 26. Riders are in ceremony as they ride, carrying prayers for healing for all people to remember the history of the events that unfolded that led to the mass hanging of 38 Dakota warriors in Mankato at 10 am on December 26, 1862. The ride is to honor the Dakota men, women and children who were held in concentration camps in Fort Snelling and what is now known as Sibley Park and Dakota Wokiksuye Makoce (Land of Memories), before being exiled from Minnesota. This will be the last year of the Dakota 38 + 2 Wokiksuye Horse Ride. Everyone is warmly invited to this final and rare opportunity to listen to and learn from the core organizers of this remarkable and arduous annual journey.
