We, in the 21st century, are understandably proud of our fantastic health care opportunities. Through science, we are able to correct many mistakes of nature with wondrous surgeries and powerful medicines. Previously fatal injuries and accidents are now repaired, even down to replacing arms and legs with artificial limbs that function nearly as well as the original equipment! What need have we of any other system--science will cure all our ills. Or will it?

Let's examine some of the alternative systems that are available, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic, Healing Touch, and others. I was privileged to take a sabbatical in Complementary and Alternative Medicine in 2000. It proved quite a contrast to my scientific training. I hope to share with you some of what I learned from that experience.
