Description

We invite you to join us for the 20th annual Building Bridges Conference, "Hidden in Plain Sight: Recognizing and Rejecting Rape Culture, etaking place Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Gustavus Adolphus College. This student-led diversity conference will provide a rewarding opportunity to engage in important dialogue that will challenge the pervasive and normalized nature of sexual violence in our communities. In particular, we will discuss the ways media, race, gender, and identity interact to create a culture of sexual violence.

Building on tradition, this conference continues to be the platform for students to address significant issues of justice in a proactive and informative way. For this reason, we have invited Jessica Valenti, founder of the feminist blog Feministing and writer for The Guardian, who has written extensively about feminism, culture, and politics to deliver the first keynote. Our second keynote, Zerlina Maxwell, has written about national politics and cultural issues; including domestic violence, sexual assault, victim blaming, and gender inequality. We encourage you to attend the 20th annual Building Bridges Conference and join us in learning about and acting upon the injustices of our world.

Supplementing the keynote speeches will be a series of workshops and an interpretive walk through to provide conference attendees with an array of opportunities to learn more about different facets of rape culture. This year's topics include masculinity, street harassment, bystander intervention, identity, media and consent.

Tickets can be ordered at gustavustickets.com or call 507-933-7520.
