the following information could be of enormous benefit.  The Madison
and Lila Self Graduate Fellowship is available at the University of
Kansas for individuals who intend to pursue a doctorate in physical
sciences, mathematics, engineering, business, economics, or biological
and pharmaceutical sciences.  This highly selective four-year
fellowship offers a $30,000 annual stipend, covers full tuition and
fees, and provides a unique professional development program.  The
total value of the four-year fellowship exceeds $165,000.  We're
looking for U.S. citizens who have a vision, the ability to set and
achieve goals, leadership potential, and a strong work ethic. Self
Fellows demonstrate initiative and a passion for achievement and
lifelong learning.  In short, we're looking for tomorrow's leaders.  
Self Fellows participate in a development program that provides
general education and training in communication, management, and
leadership, complementing the specialized education and training
provided in their Ph.D. programs.
Each January, KU departments submit Self Fellow nominations. More
than 123 fellows have benefited from the program since it began in
1989.

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship
(DOE CSGF) Program is administered by the Krell Institute. The DOE CSGF provides an annual stipend of $36,000, an academic allowance to the fellow of $1,000 per year, cost shares a computer and pays full tuition and fees for the fellow. See www.krellinst.org for more information and application.

Domestic Fisheries Observer with Alaskan Observers, Inc.
Alaskan Observers, Inc is certified by the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to provide observers for domestic fisheries. Persons hired attend training in either Seattle, WA or Anchorage, AK. In the six months following training, observers make two deployments, each one of which is approximately 2 to 2.5 months in length. Observers are guaranteed subsequent deployment opportunities and salary advances.
Description of Work: Observers gather management data for the Government, living and working aboard U.S.-flagged commercial fishing vessels operating in the Bering Sea, North Pacific, and Gulf of Alaska.
Year 2006 Compensation: $3,900-$6,340 per month, depending on experience, plus room, board, and travel to and from job site. Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in fisheries biology, marine biology, general biology, zoology, or a related natural science. No closing date. Three-week training courses are held periodically throughout the year.

Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traning in Urban Ecology Fellowship
Arizona State University offers an integrative graduate education and research training (IGERT) fellowship program in pioneering field of Urban Ecology. This prestigious interdisciplinary program is housed within ASU's Global Institute of Sustainability which brings together faculty and students from multiple disciplines to focus on issues of international importance.
Fellows gain PhDs through designed schools and departments, select a complementary minor discipline in addition to their degree-granting field, participate in team research, interdisciplinary "issues" seminars, dissertation research in an aspect of urban ecology, and international experience using the Central Arizona-Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research project and other projects at the institute for a research infrastructure.
IGERT fellowships provide stipends of $30,000 per year (including $7,500 for summer), tuition waivers, fees, health insurance, and other benefits. With satisfactory progress, fellows are funded for 3 years, including a dissertation year. Teaching/research assistantships supply the other 2 years of funding at departmental levels.

Biodiversity Research Expeditions to the Coastal Rainforest of Costa Rica and Career Opportunities in the Field
Students can gain valuable field work experience as a member of a Global Vision International research expedition during their summer vacation or post graduation. Expedition members are required to join the GVI research team starting throughout the year to undertake biodiversity studies in remote coastal habitat of Costa Rica .
