Hooked On Photonics
As an NSF-funded science and technology center, MDITR is committed to creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary, hands on education as well as a better trained, diverse workforce in the area of materials and devices for information technology.

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program entitled Hooked on Photonics, is one way MDITR accomplishes these goals. By facilitating research experiences for undergraduates amongst groups with diverse research capabilities and interests, the REU program provides new, novel learning experiences that can play a key role in encouraging students to continue with graduate work in photonics. Minnesota High Tech Association

The SciTech paid intern experience was created to develop Minnesota's STEM workforce. The idea behind it is to encourage college students to stay in the state after graduation because through this program they will be involved with the specific knowledge-based economy of Minnesota. If you are a student or recent graduate, you can help create a greener future through the National Wildlife Federation's (NWF) conservation internships and fellowships.

Internships are located in Washington, D.C., Reston, VI; Anchorage, AK; Seattle, WA; Missoula, MT; San Diego, CA; Boulder, CO; Austin, TX; Ann Arbor, MI; Montpelier, VT; Atlanta, GA. Perks of internship include: Participation in the conservation movement, invaluable professional and educational experience, working relationships with professionals, competitive compensation and benefits, project description and biography featured on NWF's website, opportunity for projects featured in publications produced by NWF and others, and extensive support from NWF staff.

Fellowships are located at any college or university in the United States. Campus Ecology fellows can be undergraduate and graduate students and need not be environmental studies majors. Fellows are based on their own campuses, where they design, implement and institutionalize their own projects. Perks include a project grant of up to $1,200 per project period, a one-year complimentary Campus Ecology Individual Enrollment, on-line tutorial customized for fellows, project support and guidance from NWF staff, networking between current and alumni fellows, project descriptions and biography on NWF's website, and national recognition and certificate of achievement.

Great Lakes Summer Fellows Program

The University of Michigan's Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems Research (CILER) program will provide students with information and experience in a broad range of fields and an exciting opportunity to conduct research in the Great Lakes Region under the mentoring ship of a scientist or professional. This year the program is hosted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) in Ann Arbor, MI and by NOAA's Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary (TBNMS) in Alpena, MI.

This proram is open to all majors. Breatkthrough Saint Paul helps motivated students overcome adversity to prepare for college with the support of olderstudents passionate about education. All undergraduates are encouraged to apply. This programs is a paid summer teaching intership that includes training and classroom teaching experience.
