The concept of an ePortfolio is not a new idea – the Health and Exercise Science Department at Gustavus Adolphus College has incorporated one into their program for over a decade through the Information Literacy in Health and Physical Education course. But during that time, the ePortfolio has evolved in many distinctive ways. From content to the outreach, it is a very different animal today compared to its early predecessor.
Today’s ePortfolio still provides an essential assessment piece for the department, but it also serves as a marketing tool for our students and our program. The key functions of the ePortfolio include the opportunity to:
- Provide students with a venue to demonstrate NASPE and AAHE competencies to the HES faculty.
- Provide professors with a venue to assess students’ competencies.
- Provide the Department with a vehicle to assess their own programmatic goals.
- Provide students with a venue to market their skills and expertise to prospective employers.
- Provide a venue to market the HES program at Gustavus Adolphus College to prospective students.
ePortfolio Assignment - A detailed description of the assignment and the rubric for final assessment.
Health Education Standards - List of AAHE standards and the corresponding courses/assignments that fulfill them.
Physical Education Standards - List of NASPE standards and the corresponding courses/assignments that fulfill them.
Course Standards - List of specific standards met within the Information Literacy in Health and Physical Education course
ePortfolio Guidelines and Rubric - Rubric used to grade defense of ePortfolio
