Katie Asfeld ’12
Alumni and Administrator
Admission Territory: Northwest MN, select Twin Cities schools, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
Born and raised in Clarissa, Minn., Katie studied English and communication studies at Gustavus. Upon graduation, she served as an AmeriCorps volunteer for two years with College Possible, a college access and success non-profit in St. Paul.
At College Possible, Katie guided 40 motivated seniors at Highland Park Senior High through the college and financial aid application processes through an intensive after-school curriculum. In addition, she planned and coordinated events for College Possible’s mentoring program, partnering with over 200 mentors and mentees in the metro area. Her time at College Possible ignited her passion for educational equity and closing the achievement gap.
Currently, Katie directs the Admission Office’s mentoring program, College Guides, which pairs current Gusties with historically underserved high school seniors (first-generation, moderate to low income, self-identifying students of color) in Minneapolis/St. Paul with the goal of providing guidance through the college application process.
As an alum, Katie can personally attest to the value of a liberal arts education at Gustavus. She is excited to be at her alma mater helping students navigate the college search and admission process. While at Gustavus, she was involved in GACTV, Firethorne, Gustavus Ambassadors, Communication Studies Club, Sigma Tau Delta, and Forensics.
She resides in Minneapolis and enjoys reading, writing, going to concerts, camping, and watching documentaries in her free time.
