Cassie Weaver begins her third season as an assistant coach with the Gustavus Adolphus College volleyball team in 2016. Weaver, who graduated from Concordia University, St. Paul in 2014 with degrees in sport management and exercise science, will also serve as the Assistant Director for Marketing within the athletic department.
Weaver’s position is the result of Gustavus receiving an NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Grant. The Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant (Division III Internship) provides funding for entry-level administrative positions at Division III institutions and conference offices to encourage access, recruitment, selection and the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women.
A native a Lakeville, Minnesota, Weaver graduated from Lakeville North High School in 2009 where she was a two-sport athlete participating in volleyball and track & field. After a high school career that saw her earn numerous All-Conference and All-Metro honors, Weaver was recruited to play volleyball at Concordia University, St. Paul.
Over her four-year collegiate career playing under head coach Brady Starkey, Weaver - a libero and defensive specialist - played in a total of 61 matches and 182 sets, recording 175 career digs. A three-time NSIC All-Academic performer, Cassie contributed to the Golden Bear volleyball team’s defensive unit during the program’s era of national dominance that began early 2000s. Over her Concordia tenure, the Golden Bears won four NCAA Championships and four NSIC Championships while compiling an overall record of 143-13 and an NSIC mark of 75-5.
While attending Concordia, Weaver served as a coach at Midwest Volleyball Instructors (2009-13), and was the head coach of the Lakeville North junior volleyball team from 2010-to-2013. She also worked as an assistant coach with the Northern Lights Juniors (2012-13), and, since January, was an assistant for Team Colorado (17N). Cassie most recently held the position of Sport Development Assistant for USA Volleyball where she handled marketing at the national level from January-to-July.
To go along with her coaching duties, Weaver is responsible for coordinating the sports marketing efforts for Gustavus’s 23 intercollegiate sports.
